Due to the extreme heat, a heatwave alert has been issued, and it is possible that Eid ul Adha holidays and summer vacations would start earlier than usual in educational institutions throughout Punjab.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued an advisory for May, June, and July stating that most districts in Punjab are predicted to have above-average temperatures from May 7 to May 11, with a potential heatwave.

According to the sources, the Eid ul Adha holidays are expected to start from May 27 to May 29, with May 30 and 31 falling on the weekend, giving a long break. As a result, schools may be closed from May 27, even though summer vacations usually start on June 1.

Meanwhile, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has recommended reducing summer and winter vacations to compensate for academic losses, with the goal of increasing the number of academic days from 180 to 190.

However, in order to help students compensate for their academic losses, private schools requested the government to permit summer camps from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. throughout the holidays.

According to the Education Department, the final summer vacation schedule will be released after reviewing the weather conditions and the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s decision.
