Today, the country is observing Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s 88th death anniversary nationwide to honor his efforts and contributions to the creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Subcontinent.
Allama Iqbal was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877. He is known as national poet, Muffakir-e-Pakistan (thinker of Pakistan) and Shair-e-Mashriq (poet of the east).
With literary works in both Persian and Urdu, he is regarded as one of the most important figures in literature. Asrar-e-Khudi, Payam-e-Mashriq, Bang-e-Dara, Bal-e-Jibreel, Zarb-e Kaleem and Armughan-e-Hijaz were amongst his outstanding works. His poetry has been translated into Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, English, and many other languages.
He was a brilliant scholar, a sincere leader of the Muslim subcontinent, and a true benefactor of the Muslim Ummah. With his thoughts and poetry, he taught the Muslim youth the lesson of independence, self-sufficiency and greatness.
The country is devotedly celebrating the day in remembrance of the great poet and philosopher today. Various educational‚ political‚ social and cultural organizations have arranged special programs to highlight Allama Iqbal’s philosophy‚ life and his contribution to create awareness among the Muslims of Subcontinent.
Pakistan was established in 1947 as a result of Allama Iqbal’s vision of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent. But unfortunately, he could not see the independence of Pakistan and passed away on April 21, 1938.
