Usually, if someone has blocked you on WhatsApp, sent messages only display a single grey tick, the profile picture disappears, and the “last seen” is no longer visible. However, these clues do not always mean that you have been blocked, as the user may simply have changed their privacy settings.
According to a report published by the technology website WABetaInfo, a security feature available in WhatsApp may help identify whether someone has blocked you or not.
The report states that WhatsApp’s Automatic Encryption Verification feature, which is normally used to verify end-to-end encryption in chats, may also provide hints about a block status.
To use this feature, open a chat, press the contact’s name at the top, and choose “Encryption”. If the verification process completes normally, it means everything is operating correctly. However, if WhatsApp is unable to complete the verification and recommends other ways, it could be a sign that the other user has blocked you.
It’s interesting to note that the other user is not notified during this process, so you can check quietly without alerting them.
